Recalled "recall airbags" do not affect urgent sales

The Toyota Rush damages the engine control unit (ECU) component, which governs the development of curtain or side airbags. It is believed that Rush's mass repairs will not affect sales of the 7-passenger SUV in Indonesia.

Yagimin, head of the marketing division at Auto2000, believes that the recall of car products is not a taboo subject in the country.

"There is no effect on sales, it's not a bad thing, only a god is made perfect," Yagimin told Sudirman in central Jakarta on Tuesday (7/16).

According to Yagimin, the mass improvement campaign is a form of responsibility of automotive companies towards consumers. This is considered a positive step to repair the damage to the vehicle for the comfort of consumers.

"There are clear notifications and information so that consumers can feel safer, so consumers are covered by TAM," he said.

Yagimin believes that in the automotive industry, Toyota is not the only company to apply the recall of vehicle products.

"The issue of recall is not something new - almost all brands have - well, the important thing is responsibility - what is the process of replacing parts and notifications," he said.

The recall of the Toyota Rush is officially announced since yesterday, Monday (15/7) for 96 000 units sold for the domestic and export markets. While 60,000 of them come from the domestic market. The withdrawal will take effect from December 2017 to February 2019.

According to the manufacturer, the recall was due to manufacturing defects in the components of a curtain airbag in ecus.

The airbag may develop under certain conditions because the program of the computer on the ECU is not suitable.

Urgent production was carried out at the Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) plant in Indonesia with Terios. The second generation of Rush and Terios was launched at the end of 2017. In the first half (January-June), this year's Rush retail sales through Toyota's official network, Auto2000 reached 12,300 units.
